Saturday 3 October 2015

It's World Cardmaking day - so no need to find an excuse to have a play or indulge in a spot of crafting!!

hello all and happy Saturday for a change -

usually my postings are for sleepy Sundays  but of course today is rather special - It is World Cardmaking day for 2015 so just had to make a card in honour of the occasion.

... and I thought  for once I ought to leave my comfort zone, stretch myself a little and do something I never do.  I had a idea I wanted to multi-colour  a stamp and had this lovely picture in my mind of something Autumnal -  aka Autumn leaves - and thought I would enter it into the current challenges over at Rubber Dance Art Challenge  and Crafting for all Seasons  and Simply Create Too as a result - and oh yes!I knew exactly how it was going to look...

You can see here my various little practicings and colour ways as I used my Stampin' write markers to ink up the solid leaf stamp from Summer Silhouettes, sort of what I was after initially,  or so I thought!

Another thank you
But then decided that what I really wanted after all,  was an outline stamp of a leaf  not a solid stamp..

but horrors - I didn't have one suitable - and it was whilst I was doing my 'multi-coloured  stampin' practice'  for my,  in the end abortive,  design,  that I fell on this by accident..

I had re-coloured that stamp a fair few times as you can see  whilst I was playing and was being lazy with the in between cleaning,   instead,  just relying on the ink getting fainter after each stamping,  until  all I was really left with was a little ink on the very edge of the stamp where I had been a bit over zealous with my colouring.  -

...and then there I had it - as I rolled the stamp on the paper in attempt to clean  it further , as you can see just left me with a faint outline which I could colour in!   I quite like the effect that produced in its own right, thinking about it..

so, quickly did 2 more stamps worth  of exactly  that on my card stock whilst there was a residue of ink left..-   yeah! result!

So, wind forwards - and what I have ended up with now is absolutely nothing like I had in  mind when I started - instead of inking up a stamp I ended up doing some "colouring in."

but I guess that is where inspiration springs from - the unexpected!

..now I would not class myself as an artist of any sort and 'colouring in' definitely sounds arty to me  but this was made  so easy with the aid of Stampin' Up!'s lovely aqua painters and blender pens so there I am - me,  having  hand coloured this leafy border.!

I took the lovely Autumn inspired colours of Delightful Dijon, Mossy Meadow, Tangelo Twist, Cherry Cobbler, Cajun Craze  squishing (technical term!) the lids of my ink pads to make a puddle of colour, which I just picked up with my blender pens and happily dotted, dashed, blended and painted away.

am so so pleased with how it turned out...

and with my smudging and dabbing and dragging out the colour as I worked it,  the border almost looks like its 3d and coming off the page.

I know it is a lot more sparse than my usual offerings but thinking along the lines of less is more - I decided to stop there, and just added the bold Thank You from the  'Another Thank You' stamp set!

Finishing with a bit of sponging around the edges with Cherry Cobbler and all I added were 3 of my 'go to' embellishments - aka Stampin' Up's! fabulous candy dots,  in matching colours so then left it at that.

what do you think?

    2. Oh, it's the least I can do when people join my challenge :)
Sometimes, accidents leads to great discoveries! Perhaps not always as great as penicillin, but we certainly need crafty inventions, too! x
